For the last two decades our federal government has given public schools
the opportunity to organize within their corporation a foundation. What this means is this, the school corporation
can be organized as a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 and operate for charitable purposes. This bridges the resources of
the community to Avon Schools.
Through the Performing Art Center, the foundation can schedule events.
Quality entertainment
professional
dance companies
Avon finally established this accreditation in 2007!
We need a school board member that works with the curve not behind it!
Grants
A way I would like to serve our school as a board member is to become efficient
at writing grants. Many of the programs I would like to enact will be funded through grants. I have already identified
specific foundations that I will apply to for funding.
WHERE DO WE BEGIN?
I believe our greatest literacy need is to re-write our elementary
curriculum. It all starts in kindergarten and that is where I would like to start. If you have had children in the elementary
schools you know, as well, that there is a large gulf between kindergarten and first grade. This is where the crack that so
many of our students are falling through starts.
LITERACY SPECIALIST
I would like to work with my fellow board members on
hiring a literacy specialist. This specialist is a proven professional in her field. She has been hired by other school
districts to re-write curriculum and these schools are already reaping the benefits of her instruction. These schools are
reporting increase scores, and less high risk students. She is being hired less by the parents.
